Aspen is known for its four seasons, and nothing quite lights up the Roaring Fork Valley as much as when the leaves change colors. The fall foliage here is simply stunning and the scenery will only enhance some of your favorite autumn activities. Here are some of the best ways to experience Aspen’s fall colors while enjoying our idyllic outdoor lifestyle:
Waterfront
Hop in a kayak and paddle down the tree-lined banks of the Roaring Fork River and Colorado River. The Aspen Kayak and SUP offer some excellent kayaking and paddle boarding programs for experts and beginners. Speaking of paddle boarding, the Northstar Nature Preserve is one of the best spots in town for fall foliage views.
Hiking and Biking Trails
Aspen offers some of the best hiking trails, mountain biking trails and road biking/walking paths anywhere in the world. You’ll get close-up views of the aspen tree groves in autumn while enjoying some breathtaking views of the mountains and valleys.
Views from Above
There are some incredible ways to get a view of Aspen’s fall scenery from the air. Take a ride on the Silver Queen Gondola that takes you all the way to the top of Aspen Mountain. Aspen Paragliding also offers tandem instruction and certification programs if you are feeling extra adventurous.
Scenic Drives
If you aren’t looking for an extreme outdoor adventure, you can simply hop in the car and drive to some of the valley’s most scenic viewpoints and parks. Some of the best spots include Castle Creek Road, Independence Pass and Maroon Creek Road.
Al Fresco Dining
There are so many great bars and restaurants throughout Aspen and Snowmass which offer al fresco dining. Ask for a seat outside and enjoy fine dining surrounded by the colorful autumn scenery. Even if you don’t want to go out to eat, order in or cook a meal at home and hang out on your balcony, patio or terrace. This is a great time of year to relax in your favorite outdoor space.
Just Look Around
When you live in Aspen all-year round, it’s easy to take the scenery for granted sometimes. Just remember to look around sometimes and remind yourself why you love living here. Even if you are just visiting or only here for the fall season, don’t forget to enjoy the views as much as possible. Autumn in Aspen is truly special.
