It’s Springtime in Aspen!

It’s Springtime in Aspen!

Spring is such a unique and fun time of year in Aspen and Snowmass. We see plenty of blue skies, and yet there is still a ton of soft snow on the ground. It’s not uncommon to see skiers and snowboarders out there on the slopes wearing costumes, T-shirts, shorts and even the occasional bikini! We’re transitioning into longer, warmer days while still enjoying peak ski conditions. Just don’t forget the sunscreen—especially if wearing that bikini!

Aspen’s Aprés-Ski Scene

Another tradition that always picks up more in springtime is the aprés-ski social scene. With COVID-19 restrictions loosening and outdoor dining options expanding, many Aspen area ski resorts, restaurants and bars will have lively après-ski patios with fresh air, music, drinks and dining. You are sure to have a great time, whether you actually spent all day out on the slopes or you just want to dress up in your favorite après-ski attire and hang out with your friends.

Aspen Skinning

If you have had your fill of downhill skiing, maybe it’s time to kick your snow cardio activity up a notch by trying skinning uphill. There are some incredible local mountains and trails for a variety of different challenge levels. In case you didn’t know, “skinning” is when you adhere skins to the bottom of your skis for an uphill climb. And, don’t worry snowboarders, they also have split boards for this same purpose. It’s an incredible adventure to skin up a mountain and then ski or snowboard your way back down. If you’ve never tried it, you are missing out!

It is important to know the uphill rules this year for skinners, snowshoers and hikers. Per Pitkin County Guidelines, you must remain on designated, signed routes and only uphill during approved operating hours. No uphilling is allowed on certain holiday blackout dates and there may be occasional route closures during heavy use times to prevent back-ups and delays on the trails. The signs out there should be clear to point out when Aspen/Snowmass uphilling routes are open. If there is no signage, you are not in the right place.

Aspen Ski Equipment Rental

Of course, there are plenty of local ski and snowboard equipment rental shops around town. One of my favorites is Ute Mountaineer in Aspen. They have everything you need to make the most of your day(s) on the slopes, from boots, poles and safety gear to skis, snowboards, skins and snowshoes of all types and sizes.

Everyone around here is celebrating the spring season, and it seems like summer is just around the corner. There’s so much to see and do in Aspen all year round, but this may be my favorite time of year.

If you are looking to buy or sell real estate in Aspen/Snowmass this spring or summer, it’s important to get your planning and preparation started as soon as possible. It is going to be a very active next few months in the local home market. Contact me today to discuss the possibilities.
