We all know Aspen is renowned for its world-class skiing this time of year. However, there is so much more to see and do throughout the Roaring Fork Valley. Not everyone is a skier around here. The good news is there are plenty of winter activities to enjoy in Aspen that don’t involve skiing or snowboarding.
Here are a few of my recommendations:
Snowmobiling
Local companies like T-Lazy-7 offer snowmobile rentals and tour packages. You can traverse the mountains in comfort and enjoy a little high-speed adventure on some beautiful trails in Aspen. Learn more.
Snowshoeing
You may not be interested in strapping on a pair of skis or a snowboard, but you can still get out and enjoy the winter season with a pair of snowshoes on your feet. This is a very low-key way to immerse yourself in the Aspen landscape, but can also be quite a workout depending on where you hike. You can buy or rent snowshoes at local sporting goods stores or sign up for a group snowshoe tour at the Aspen Center for Environmental Studies (ACES). Learn more.
Yoga
Yoga is a great way to find your spiritual center while getting excellent exercise. Aspen offers several wonderful yoga and wellness centers with classes for yogis of all skill levels. Learn more.
Spa Day
Several of Aspen’s top hotel resorts offer luxurious spas. Why spend a day on the slopes when you can get pampered from head to toe? Book a massage or mud bath and experience true relaxation and rejuvenation! Learn more.
Aspen Art Museum
If you want to take in some rich arts and culture, plan a visit to the Aspen Art Museum. The institution is located in the heart of downtown Aspen and offers many great activities, events and educational programs for all ages. Learn more.
Fat Biking
This is a really fun activity that is getting more popular each winter. Rent a “fat” bicycle from Ute Mountaineer with big off-road tires that will give you good traction on the snow. It’s a great way to explore local trails and mountain passes. Learn more.
Ice Climbing
If you really want an invigorating outdoor adventure that doesn’t involve skiing, check out the ice climbing programs from Aspen Expeditions. You can climb up a frozen waterfall and experience a side of Aspen that few rarely see. Learn more.
Concerts
There are always great concerts, plays and events happening in Aspen throughout the winter season. Check out a show at Belly Up. Learn more.
Whether you are an avid skier or not, you will enjoy any one of these other fantastic Aspen winter activities!
