The Aspen spring season will be over before you know it. Summer is just around the corner. Have you done your spring cleaning yet?
Whether you are a year-round Aspen resident, seasonal visitor or rental property owner, this is always a great time of year to clean up around the house. There are few things more rewarding than coming home to a place where everything feels fresh and clean!
Here are a few helpful spring cleaning tips you can follow:
1. Make a Checklist
I don’t need to list out everything that you need to clean this spring, but you should. Make a checklist of all the important parts of the house you want to clean, whether it’s room by room or down to the smallest details. Consider exterior jobs like gutters, paint and windows. Inside, go through each room and list out what needs to be done. Having a checklist helps you remember everything and you get a better sense of accomplishment as each task is completed. Check out this comprehensive spring cleaning checklist from Taste of Home.
2. Try to Make it Fun
Find ways to make the process fun and involve your spouse and/or children. Give everyone certain tasks, goals and rewards for doing a good job. Design little challenges and races to keep everyone motivated and having a good time, rather than making it feel like a bunch of tedious chores.
3. Work from the Top Down
When cleaning any room, it’s smart to work from the top down. Dust the shelves and ceiling fans first and then vacuum or mop the floors last. Don’t forget to clean under furniture, as well. This is a great method for getting rid of as much dust, dirt and pet hair as possible.
4. Do a Safety Inspection
In addition to cleaning, this is a good opportunity to inspect every corner of your home. You will want to include safety cleaning and maintenance as part of your spring cleaning checklist. Clean out dryer vents, test smoke and carbon monoxide alarms, replace air filters and do everything you should be doing to make your house as safe as possible. As we head into the dry summer months in Aspen, you will also want to clear out excess brush around your property to help minimize wildfire concerns.
5. Declutter and Donate
Spring cleaning should be more than just cleaning and disinfecting surfaces around the house. Use this opportunity to go through your closets, garage and other storage spaces. Get rid of stuff you don’t want or need anymore. Donate usable items to local charities like the Aspen Thrift Shop, and throw out anything else that isn’t worth keeping. Having more space and less clutter makes your home feel so much cleaner!
6. Don’t Forget the Garage and Outdoor Spaces
Many homeowners focus on the inside of their houses when it comes to spring cleaning. Don’t forget to clean up your garage and go around the exterior of your home to spruce things up. Maybe it’s time to put down some new grass seed on the lawn or pull some weeds from the garden. This is the time of year to make the outside of your house look as beautiful as possible, as well!
7. Hire a Cleaning Service
If you don’t have the time or desire to clean yourself, there are plenty of great cleaning services in Aspen. Make an appointment and have a cleaning person or crew come out and do all the dirty work you don’t want to do.
These are just a few general spring cleaning tips that Aspen homeowners can utilize. If you are planning to sell your home or condo this year, cleaning and decluttering are important steps to take as you prepare the property for sale. If you aren’t moving anywhere, it is still a good feeling to have a nice clean home to live in.
