As students come off of an early and extended summer break this year, families are making back to school plans in the Roaring Fork Valley. School is no exception to the creation of a “new normal” and with different approaches to being put in place for safe learning. The Aspen area is known for having some of the best schools in Colorado and they are dedicating to doing what’s best for the children and the families in this community.

Aspen School District

Aspen has a great public school system with K-12 and preschool learning on campuses including Aspen High School, Aspen Middle School, Aspen Elementary School and The Cottage Preschool.
Aspen Community School
The is also part of the Aspen School District. It is a charter school providing an alternative to conventional public schooling, featuring more outdoor education (“Experiential Education”) that gives children an opportunity to learn outside of traditional classroom settings. Admission to the Community School is done on a lottery basis.
Aspen Country Day School
is another wonderful experiential education program with outdoor education, creative arts and rigorous academic standards. Their goal is to develop curiosity, confidence, citizenship and critical thinking skills as students are encouraged to strive for individual excellence. This is a private school and tuition ranges from $8,240-$30,290 per year.
Colorado Rocky Mountain School
This college preparatory school is located in Carbondale and features advanced learning programs for students in grades 9-12. They have a small faculty-to-student ratio (1 faculty member for every 4 students). 41% of all (CRMS) students receive financial aid and 100% of graduates are accepted into a 4-year college or university. They offer day student programs and boarding packages.
Mt. Sopris Montessori Preschool
is a not-for-profit Montessori preschool that is located in a quiet residential street in Carbondale. They educate about 70 preschool children each year, with ages ranging from 18 months up to 6 years. They aim to help children develop respect for themselves, their community and their environment through exploratory curriculum.
Ross Montessori School
is a school grounded in the Montessori Method, encouraging students through the joy of discovery. Their educational programs feature art, music and drama. Students also participate in community service activities and environmental conservation efforts to develop creativity and practical problem-solving skills through active learning.
